Dr.  Benjamin Chapman currently enjoys a dual career as a performer and instructor. Since leaving Australia to pursue his studies in Toronto and Montréal, he has maintained an active teaching schedule.

In the past 12 months Dr. Chapman tirelessly worked alongside more than 50 different students whose accomplishments include successfully auditioning and gaining admittance to CEGEP programs in Music; being selected to perform at the Concert Étoiles Montantes de l’École des Jeunes de l’Université de Montréal; and a number of favorable RCM examination results including several First Class Honours.

Dr. Chapman currently maintains an additional studio at École des Jeunes de l’Université de Montréal and is affiliated with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), École Vincent d’Indy and la Coopérative des professeurs de musique de Montréal. He has taught previously as a chargé de cours in the Faculty of Music at l’Université de Montréal and at Sheila Parkins Academy for Dance and Music.

Dr. Chapman’s  prizes and competition successes include 5th prize at the 2012 Shean National Competition in Alberta, selection as finalist at the Université de Montréal Concerto competition in two consecutive years, 1st prize at the Guelph Symphony Concerto competition and subsequent guest appearance with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra.

Other concert appearances include a recent recital at Pianos Bolduc, multiple performances at the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre noon hour piano series of the Canadian Opera Company, Banff Summer Arts Festival, the Midday Music with Shigeru series during Barrie Colours of Music festival and house concerts at the Stratford Summer Music Festival. More locally, he has regularly performed at the Orford Summer Arts festival.

Dr. Chapman holds a doctorate and masters degree in piano performance from l’Université de Montréal as a pupil of celebrated pedagogue Marc Durand. He is also an alumnus of the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music where he obtained an Artist Diploma studying with John Perry. He graduated from the University of New South Wales, Australia with Bachelor degree in music 1st Class Honors and is a recipient of the University Medal.
